Focusing on the generative capabilities of transformer models for Machine Translation. Enhancing translation efficiency by training transformers on synthetic languages and investigating whether transformers can learn Synchronous Context-Free Grammars (SCFGs) and other formal languages within Chomsky's hierarchy.
The NLTK library book! This was my first in NLP, and I read it while working on my Bachelor's thesis. It is nowadays very outdated but I still managed to use it and have recently made extensions of its python library for generation of complex synchronous formal languages.
Gave me useful insights on power and the limitations behind ML.
The "art of rebuilding models from zero" is a way too much undervalued skill in a time of ready-made libraries.
It does not touch transformers, but I really liked the step-by-step "re-building" of increasingly sophisticated models, without the use of PyTorch.
This is the book that I used for the Deep Learning course at Univerzita Karlova in Prague and I enjoyed it a lot.
